Grief takes on many forms within the first year of loss. There are many layers of loss that one can feel, anywhere from anger and despair to complete denial. One emotion that sneaks up on us is dread, and this comes right around the time of the anniversary of a death.
Some suggestions are to celebrate the loved one by doing something that was a favorite for them. Eating at their favorite restaurant, cranking their favorite tunes, planting their favorite flowers, making their favorite meal, or watching their favorite movie. These little celebrations, while painful, can also bring the happier times to light rather than dwelling on the pain of the day. You cannot avoid this day; it will come without choice every year but you can learn to make the day pass a little easier by celebrating your loved ones life rather than mourning the day of their death.
What are some ways that you can make the anniversary a less painful day?
